This World Cup had so many highs and so many lows.
The high points included Ronaldo breaking Gerd Muller's World Cup record of 14 goals when the Brazilian scored agains Japan and Ghana.There were also new young faces on the international scene that I hope will appear as South Africa 2010.Players like Podolski,Lahm,Tevez,Messi should hopefully step up and set the world alight.Besides the two aforementioned Germans,the others did not really make the mark and were largely disappointing.Last but not least,who could forget Singapore's footballing pride when Shamsul Maidin officiated not 1 not 2 but 3matches and was the 4th official for another.
The lowest point of the tournament no doubt goes Zidane's insane headbutt against Materazzi in the Final.What was he thinking honestly?
There was also the controversial match between Portugal and the Netherlands in which 16 yellow cards were shown,resulting in Deco,Costinha,Giovanni van bronckhorst and Khalid Boulahrouz being sent off.Not forgetting Graham Poll's big big mistake in showing Josep Simunic 3 yellow cards before sending him off.
All in all though,Germany 06 was a success.Entertaining matches here and there and the standards of play was good.Only sad thing?Diving and play acting are still very match prominent in the games.FIFA may have coped with doping but must now move on to stamping out such unsportsmanlike behaviour.
As I predicted,Podolski was named Young Player of the tournament.He,alongside Cristiano Ronaldo,Cesc Fabregas,Lionel Messi, were nominated.However,C.Ronaldo's unsporting behaviour cost him fairplay points and thus Podolski,with 3 goals to his name, was rightfully awarded the trophy.
As for Player of the tournament,it has to be without doubt Italy's winning captain,Fabio Cannavaro.He was solid throughout all 7 games in Germany and should deservedly walk away with the award.
On a more personal note,oh man!today as the class was making our way to the Physics lab,we walked past this female trainee teacher(I think) and I caught a whiff of this smell.It was her smell!I'm not referring to the teacher but her. Man,it was such a blast.I never expected to have been able to catch that scent again but I did.And I miss it so much.
Geez everyone must think I'm a stalker or mentally ill or something but I assure you I'm not.
